An increasing number of parents choose to use real nappies over disposable ones for their babies. They do so because of the increasing environmental concerns and they are also looking to save money. There is also an ever-growing popularity of baby swimming and virtually every pool requires now small children to wear a swim nappy. A lot of people use disposable swim nappies, not knowing that they could use real nappies for this purpose.

So what are the pros and cons of real and disposable swim nappies? The first thing is, disposable nappies are widely available and are ready to use in a short notice. A reusable swim nappy on the other hand requires more attention: it has to be snug fit to retain waste properly, so it is a good idea to fit the nappy before you buy. A real nappy can be also more expensive at the first glance, but if you plan to use it frequently, it will be more economical than the disposable ones. A real swim nappy can be used for a subsequent child if cared for properly. Disposable nappies can be really bulky, so transportation can be quite a hassle, while a real swim nappy takes up less space in the trunk of your car.

Environmentally conscious parents also started to be concerned about the impact chemicals in a disposable swim nappy can have on their children. Real nappies are superior again, because they are made of cotton or similar organic fabrics and don’t contain any plastics or other chemicals. Real swim nappies come in a variety of colors and styles: smaller children will be amused by cartoon characters printed on them, while older toddlers who feel embarrassed about wearing nappies can choose plain swim nappies, which look very similar to a normal swim suit. However, disposable nappies can be more practical than the real ones: they can be ripped open, while many types of fabric swim nappies have to be pulled down.
